Millions of people have e-gold accounts. It used to be the largest gold-based money-transfer system on the web, "100% backed by gold". So some people like me used it to invest in gold. Before I joined, I checked it out thoroly. "e-gold will still be here 100 years from now, even a 1000." Go to their website now, and everything looks the same as in 2008. But try to join and you cant. Search for an exchanger, and they will charge you 90% to change to fiat money (national currency), if they change it at all. Nearly every member will, of course, know this. And they will probably know that this situation arises from a court case for moneylaundering and illegal money transmission, which the company lost. The three directors were let off by a soft judge with fines and a requirement to register as a money transmission company. So that 's why we're waiting and waiting and....
Now I dont know about you, but I'm fed up of waiting. I'm fed up of the excuses that I keep being given. Now users must post proof of identity on their site, but, for some reason, my photos do not upload. Deliberate or what? Some people say that their accounts get blocked. All of which points to attempts to steal people's money. I have even seen suggestions that the gold itself has been secretly removed. Certainly, if you try to get the physical gold, they tell you that, due to circumstances beyond their control, which they refuse to specify, they are only able to release it to bullion dealers, despite this being a violation of their own charter.
It amazes me that no-one now even mentions e-gold. It is as if it had never existed. Why are they prepared to roll over and forget about $88 000 000? I am certainly not prepared to forget about my $20 000 or so. So let us put our thinking caps on and try to come up with a way to reunite ourselves with our money.
I have some ideas that I will mention, but first I want to throw the field open to suggestions.
